The Big Digital Entertainment Questions…

The Digital Entertainment Alliance’s continuous research program “The Digital Entertainment Revolution: Application and Service Opportunities in a Morphing World” is dedicated to on-going research, case studies and resources to answer a critical set of business, technology and industry issues issues raised by the promise of new digital entertainment applications. In an age of hype and promises, the DEA’s mandate is to take a sober look and track developments and issues related to that some of the following questions. 

BUSINESS

  • Will digital entertainment help me make money, save money, find new audiences, enter new markets, or protect my existing franchises? What about timing? Will it hurt if we wait? What is the risk?
  • How is the industry developing and who is partnering with whom? What are the overall trends and where are there opportunities for me and my business? What are realistic business objectives and models? 
  • How are companies worldwide making advances in the field of digital entertainment? What may be learned from advanced developments in markets such as Korea, Japan and China as well as Europe and the US?
  • What is the nature of digital entertainment opportunities by area and how big and far off are they? How should we approach them and either pursue them independently or integrate them into our overall strategy?

 

APPLICATIONS AND SERVICES

  • Where are the key, hot digital entertainment application and service opportunities and how big could they get?
  • What the the core nature of newly-emerging audience experience? How is it different and what behavior patterns are emerging? What might pop out of left field and surprise us? 
  • What are the key characteristics of digital entertainment audience experiences by medium? How is “converged” digital entertainment consumed?
  • What are the key operational and tactical practicalities we should consider when pursuing digital entertainment opportunities with our current operations? 

 

TECHNOLOGY

  • What are the most viable digital technologies in the marketplace today and what is likely to emerge? How widespread will its adoption be?
  • What key standards are likely to emerge to enable the proliferation (or suppression) or new digital entertainment offerings?
  • Who are the key players in the marketplace and what are they likely to do in the next 12 to 18 months and beyond? What should we look for? 
  • How will content, context and technology come together in a viable audience experience? What will it look like?

 We realize that each Alliance Member of the DEA has a set of very individualized questions they would like answered. This is the essence of a networked information collaborative and we have designed the DEA to provide a broad set of research information to its membership while preserving the private individual needs for specific research in this area.
